A Nov. 16 corporate security bulletin was drafted in response to a petition calling on the city to support a ceasefire and protestors confronting a Conservative MP.
This message reads almost identical to ones sent out to staff during the convoys and anti vaxx protests. The fact is security will look at a lens of tactics only but their knowledge of tactics and likelihood of threat is devoid of any greater context. Except, there’s an un acknowledged context in the practice: Events within the perceived “mainstream” will be read as safer and those challenging authority will be read as more threatening.
The way that Canada's "national security" apparatus has stepped up in recent years to flex on all members of the media and political class at every level, including through psychological manipulation tactics such as this, makes it abundantly clear that any remaining pretense of a democratic society is rapidly being discarded. If they can't buy people off with salaried positions they'd rather just make you terrified to lose your job and not be able to pay for your expensive mortgage. It is and will continue to be a very effective threat for those accustomed to the higher standard of living which is afforded to councillors, MLAs, MPs, cops, landlords, establishment journalists etc. All you have to do is abandon your humanity.
