At Alberta Native News, I covered four Treaty 8 First Nations’ joint effort to prevent the sale of Crown land to Mackenzie County for agricultural production.
Also for Native News, I wrote about how the Confederacy of Treaty 6 First Nations and Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta, as well as several individual First Nations, were accepted as intervenors in a court case challenging a proposed referendum on Alberta independence.
I reported on the National Coalition of Chiefs, a First Nations organization established explicitly to advocate for fossil fuel projects. Their president Dale Swampy, who is not a chief, was the only representative of an Indigenous organization who spoke at this year’s Carbon Capture Canada conference in Edmonton.
