ANNOUNCEMENT: I’m aiming to head down to Red Deer in a couple weeks to cover the UCP annual general meeting on Nov. 1 and 2, which will include Premier Danielle Smith’s first leadership review since becoming premier.
Party members are slated to debate a whole slew of culture war nonsense—the elimination of diversity, equity and inclusion from the provincial public service, banning trans women from female spaces, prohibiting drag performances for children, recognizing only two genders on government documents and increasing CO2 emissions (since its a foundation of life).
Going to Red Deer for the weekend is going to cost money—think gas, accommodations and food. If you’d like to see me make the trip down Highway 2 to cover what is certain to be a weekend of batshittery, please become a paid subscriber.
And now for your regularly scheduled roundup:
In Jacobin, I wrote about the resurgence of scurvy in the U.S., U.K. and Canada, which can be attributed to growing economic inequality and food insecurity.
