The death of context in an online hall of mirrors.
Thank you for taking the time and energy to write this.
Dear Mr. Appel, This is the best analysis of the situation in Israel/Palestine I have read in recent years. I have already sent links to several friends in the hope that more people will read it and understand how very complex the whole situation is. Your comparison with Algeria is excellent. I taught Middle East and African colonial history at the U of A many years ago. Your essay would have been required reading if I was still teaching. Thank you for your courage and insight.
Jeremy, this is thorough, powerful, and above all brave in the face of the relentless onslaught of charges of anti-Semitism against anyone compelled to speak out against Israeli settler colonialism. Well done and thank you.
Thank you for making this connection to colonialism. Over the past few days o have found myself making the same connection. This is a truth that should be named clearly and loudly.
well said. Please have a look at my blog on Gaza and sign up!
Thanks Jeremy for your analysis you provided here and in the most recent episode of the Alberta Advantage Podcast titled "Zionism Sucks". Despite the situation in Gaza over the past few months, the recent Hague Court case could be proven to help make Israel a pariah and help move BDS and other movements to cut their ties to Israel. I agree with Dave Zirin and Jules Boykoff in a piece in Jacobin about banning Russia and Israel from the Olympics. While I don't think that this will happen before the Olympics are to take place in Paris this summer there should be a move to ban these nations from future Olympics. We could add FIFA to that as well as cultural events. If Taylor Swift were to choose not perform in Israel as Roger Waters has done, that would be very effective.
