Astounding the ignorance of many Canadians ... including Albertans.
Some of the separatists actually want to join the states as a 51st.
Firstly they'd lose most of their oil royalties because in the US the FEDS get the royalties, not the provinces (states) ... though they kindly give about 50% back to states like Texas.
Secondly I remember that when my family moved to Alberta in 1958, (a decade after "Leduc #1" the first oil well, Alberta was on the RECEIVING end of interprovincial transfer payments, mainly from BC and ON. (this ended in under another decade)
I don't recall any whining from BC and Ontario about these transfer payments.... even now.
