The fear of difference inside right wing circles is actually a by product of a world view that continues to imagine there are two answers, ideas, solutions...........for everything, one of them wrong.
Perhaps if we read a bit more in natural science we'd have to concede that we're still here, engaging in these stupid conflicts, largely because the natural world is more diverse than most can imagine....and as the apex predator of that system, humans are more diverse than old dualisms want to acknowledge as well.
People can handle diversity...knowing who we are, becoming who we are is not seditious....and forcing minorities to pretend they aren't who they are.......insisting on silence, ignorance and repression to keep us all down to two genders, two political parties........or two of anything....is, given what modern science has revealed......idiotic.
But welcome to Alberta...here we're gunning to be another 'distinct society'....all the same...but different than those 'progressive lefties'.
It's nuts. And no matter what Danielle Smith and her merry band of faux Christians try to do...young people aren't going to be buying it.
They have to have something trivial to get their tails in a knot about because....well...let's face it. Conservatives can't face, let alone deal with........any of the very real problems the world is facing.
Policing the powerless is all that's left for them.
When do we stop pretending this is about morality and our children? Who funds these "concerned parent" groups? ALEC, the Koch-funded advocacy group for privatization and deregulation disrupts public education in the US by promoting 'school choice' or the funneling of public dollars into private and charter schools. How is it it these astroturf groups, Parents for Choice in Education and Action4Canada pop up dirty books in hand just as Nicolaides approves capital funding for three new charter schools? Even Nenshi, invited to the meeting of a public school advocacy group, defended charter and private schools in certain circumstances for 'under-privileged' special needs children. The charter school model which divides and segregates. Because some children want to study Shakespeare and some want to wear rainbows, of course. This, at a meeting where parents and educators are pleading for inclusion and fair funding of public education.
Never mind that educational support staff successfully negotiated for better wages and that a teachers' strike looms. The end goal is to defund public education and to completely break the impact of the unions.
Just an interesting detail that so many private and charter schools are run by and supported by friends and family and failed candidates of the UCP.
I'd prefer you speak for yourself..rather than link to X........a site many of us have no desire to follow, in part because it is a place dependent on culture wars and multiple forms of disinformation.
Coming on an alternative source, to steer us back to the source of many current social problems seems counter productive.
